The 1986 Statue of Liberty $5.00 Gold coin highlights a closeup view of the statue's crown and face. The reverse side showcases an outline of an eagle in flight. Designer Elizabeth Jones, who was the U.S. Mint's Chief Engraver, designed both the reverse and obverse sides of the coin.

The inscription on the obverse side (front) feature the "1986" date and the word "Liberty." The inscription on the reverse side (back) features the following words:

1. "United States of America"
2. "E Pluribus Unum"
3. "In God We Trust"
4. "Five Dollars"

Both uncirculated and proof editions of the $5 gold coin were struck at the West Point Mint. The coins were available to the general public as part of complete three and six coin sets or individually. The 3 coin set featured a half dollar and a silver dollar, along with the $5 gold coin. Both proof and uncirculated editions of the set were available. The 6 coin set featured the 3 coins in both proof and uncirulated condition.
